Maggiano’s Little Italy Hires Former ‘Chef to the Stars,’

Chris Horning as Sous Chef

BELLEVUE, Wash.—(May 23, 2008)—Maggiano’s Little Italy recently hired Chris Horning to be the new Sous Chef. Horning is responsible for ensuring the efficiency of Maggiano’s 80-person kitchen, and smooth flow and overall presentation of Maggiano’s cuisine.

Horning was previously working in Alaska as Sous Chef at Hotel Captain Cook, Anchorage’s luxury hotel. Two years later he was promoted to Director of Catering before being moving up to the position of Executive Chef. During this time, Horning also spent time cooking private dinners for luminaries such as Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Mikhail Gorbachev, Dan Rather and actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

Horning was born and raised in Anchorage, Ala., where he started working in a local restaurant at the age of 15. He soon decided that he wanted to expand his knowledge in culinary arts and attended the culinary arts program at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France. After receiving a Culinary Diploma, he returned to the United States to attend the Art Institute of Phoenix, graduating at the top of his class with an Associate in Occupational Studies in Culinary Arts.

The job opportunity with Maggiano’s Little Italy brought Horning and his family to the Seattle area.

Horning’s personal philosophy on cooking holds that, if he puts 100% of his creativitiy, drive and passion into a restaurant, the staff will follow. Additionally, he believes that great chefs produce great teamwork, superb production and beautiful kitchens.
