El Gaucho Portland Introduces the El Series
Four New $220 Cocktails Raise the Bar with Louis XIII Cognac

PORTLAND, Ore.,—(April 29, 2008)—Named the “Gold Standard” by Portland Monthly, El Gaucho Portland’s bar program introduces the fun, witty and sharp new El Series to its already distinguished cocktail menu.

Part early Vegas with a dash of old school supper club, this series turns to the King of Cognacs as its key ingredient: House of Remy Martin’s absolute cognac, Louis XIII.

Created in 1874 in Grande Champagne, the smallest and most prestigious of the six cognac-producing districts in France, Louis XIII is blended and aged in barrels for over one hundred years. Throughout the decades, countless iconic historical figures and dignitaries sipped this luxurious mahogany liquor. Queen Elizabeth and King George IV sipped it at the Chateau de Versailles in 1938 and in 1951 former Prime Minister Winston Churchill celebrated his reelection victory with a snifter of Louis XIII.

Now El Gaucho guests can experience the woody notes and palate of fruits and spices of Louis XIII (which costs $1,854 a bottle) in each of the four cocktails in the series. The El Series ($220 each) includes:

Louis Alexander Louis XIII, Godiva Liqueur, heavy cream
Louis Smash Louis XIII, fresh mint, soda
Louis Sazerac Louis XIII, Herbsaint, Peychaud bitters, lemon twist
Louis Side Car Louis XIII, Grand Marnier, Centenaire, fresh lemon and orange

“We pride ourselves in offering our guests the best of the best here at El Gaucho,” said Mark Joseph, bar manager of El Gaucho Portland. “Louis XIII adds a little magic to our new series.”
